It's a kind of edit where audio from the following scene overlaps the visual form the preceding scene. It can be used to make the transition better or even for a dialogue scene (if you think about it we never just wait until someone is finished in real life). 

It’s called a J0cut because on the timeline it kind of looks like a letter J.
