It's a kind of edit where the camera is usually stationary but we remove some portions of the action in between 2 events. For example, instead of shoring someone walking through a door, walking through a room to a chair, and sitting on a chair we could show just the act of opening the door and sitting on a chair.
Usually, jump cuts are used to compress time. Nowadays it’s a very common type of cut in social videos. In Cinema language it’s usually used very sparingly.
